In canon Ancalagon the Black is male, but because Tolkien needs more ladies and his dragons are sentient, I headcanon her as female. S/he is the largest dragon ever bred, and died during the last battle of the First Age, breaking three mountains underneath herself in her death spasms. Kinda makes Smaug look unimpressive in comparison, huh
